The party is affected
All five were killed by Zaldara Kordris and resurrected by Syndra Silvane. They have weeks to live.
- Since about two weeks before S1, everyone on the Sword Coast who has ever been resurrected has been slowly wasting away. It feels like their soul is being pulled out. “Like sand in an hourglass.”
- Being raised from the dead used to be ordinary on the Sword Coast. The DM’s comparison: imagine everyone who ever had their appendix out suddenly starting to die.
- There are no visible symptoms yet.
- Syndra Silvane was raised 40 years ago and can feel it clawing at her soul.
- Cause: the archlich Acererak is draining huge numbers of souls, by means of something called the Soulmonger.
- The way to end it: stop Acererak in Chult.
