Route: out of the eastern side gate, about 3 h through terraced rice paddies and vegetable farms, then about 2½ h of jungle · Keeper: Master Vul · Visited: S5

  • The shrine: a half-sunken stone pavilion carved from a single boulder, choked with vines and moss, with a giant stone frog at either end. It is centuries old and visited often.
  • The water: a natural spring feeds a flat-stone waterfall into the pavilion. Behind the waterfall is a sand-and-stone filter and water wheel, and sluice gates feed underground channels back to the farms and the port’s fresh water. A water-sealing glyph protects it.
  • Feel: a primal resonance. Kale feels that the city’s protection is thinner out here.
  • What happened: thieves stole one of the two ancient bronze offering basins (the other was found hidden by a frog statue). One thief got his foot stuck in the filter, the glyph fired, and the shrine flooded the terraces with brackish water. The party killed four thugs and cleared the filter. → Bronze Offering Basins
  • Tablets at the shrine tell some of Kubazan’s story.
